The Clark County Board of Commissioners authorized $6 million in funding to preserve 120 affordable apartment units, reviewed progress on school traffic safety initiatives and honored local public servants during its regular meeting on Sept. 15.
Securing long-term affordable housing
The board approved $6 million from the Clark County Welcome Home Community Housing Fund for FWM Paseo, LLC to rehabilitate the Paseo del Prado apartments, located at 740 E. Warm Springs Rd. The 120-unit complex serves residents earning at or above 60 percent of the area median income.
The new funding allocation will support property renovations to ensure the apartment complex remains affordable for another 50 years. Since the creation of the Welcome Home fund in 2022, Clark County has invested in 47 housing properties across the region to preserve and expand affordable housing options.
School traffic safety and employee recognitions
During department updates, the Office of Traffic Safety delivered a progress report on the implementation of recommendations developed by the School Traffic Safety Working Group. The initiative focuses on enhancing safety measures for students, pedestrians and motorists in and around school zones.
The board also presented a special recognition to Canine Companions in honor of National Service Dog Month, acknowledging the organization’s work in supporting residents with disabilities.
Additionally, county employees were recognized through the Value Champions peer-to-peer program, which honors staff members who exemplify organizational values while serving the public. Honorees represented the Parks & Recreation, Social Services and Code Enforcement departments.
