Clark County officials are warning the public and local businesses to remain vigilant following a phishing scam targeting customers of the county’s Comprehensive Planning Department.
The fraudulent scheme involves fake emails requesting payment for compensation fees associated with use permits, design reviews and administrative oversight for land planning applications. In messages flagged by county communications officers, scammers instruct recipients to review attached fraudulent invoices, request payment instructions and submit payment confirmations directly to the sender.
County officials emphasized that fake emails associated with the scam have been sent from unauthorized domains, including @usa.com. Official invoices from the Comprehensive Planning Department will only originate from email addresses ending in @clarkcountynv.gov and will always include the specific county planner assigned to the customer’s project.
The public is strongly cautioned to avoid clicking on any suspicious links seeking financial or payment information. Anyone who suspects they have received a phishing email or wishes to verify the authenticity of a planning invoice should contact the department directly at 702-455-5616 or email [email protected].
