The City of North Las Vegas officially broke ground on a 2.7-mile expansion of the I-215 Northern Beltway Trail during a ceremony at Aviary Park on Wednesday, Sept. 23. The project adds to the city’s existing network of 70 miles of trails, marking a key step toward a long-term plan to establish a continuous 45-mile trail connecting North Las Vegas to Henderson.
Phased construction to connect regional trail network
The expansion begins with a paved segment running parallel to the I-215 Beltway from North Decatur Boulevard to Clayton Street, with completion anticipated in late 2027. Following the initial phase, Phase 1A will extend the pathway another 1.8 miles from Clayton Street to North 5th Street, a segment currently at 90 percent design. Design work for the second phase is scheduled to begin in late 2026, which will add an additional 1.25 miles from North 5th Street to Losee Road along the south side of the beltway.
Community leaders gather for ceremonial kickoff
Along with the paved trail surface, the completed project will incorporate pedestrian lighting, minor landscaping, wayfinding markers and interpretive signage.
City officials and community representatives gathered for the morning groundbreaking at 6750 Aviary Way, including North Las Vegas Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown, Mayor Pro Tempore Scott Black, City Manager Micaela Moore and Parks and Recreation Director Doug Guild. BMX legend and television personality Ricardo Laguna also joined city leaders to celebrate the commencement of construction.
