Firefighters from the North Las Vegas Fire Department deployed Monday morning as part of Nevada Task Force One to assist in emergency response efforts ahead of severe flash flooding driven by Hurricane Polo in New Mexico.
The local crew joined a 45-member specialized team mobilized in a Type 3 Water configuration, equipped with multiple boat teams trained for swift-water rescue and flood operations. Nevada Task Force One combines personnel from the North Las Vegas Fire Department alongside regional first responders from the Clark County Fire Department, Las Vegas Fire Rescue, Henderson Fire Department, Boulder City Fire Department and civilian volunteers.
Nevada Task Force One serves as one of 28 Federal Urban Search and Rescue teams nationwide and is currently the only federal team activated for the Hurricane Polo deployment.
Emergency management officials expect the mission to last up to two weeks. While the team’s exact staging location in New Mexico remains fluid as the storm system develops, crews anticipated encountering heavy rainfall while traveling through Arizona and New Mexico.
“We are all wishing for safe travel en route,” Clark County Fire Department Deputy Chief and Emergency Manager Brian O’Neal said in a statement confirming the deployment.
The joint effort highlights the ongoing regional coordination among Southern Nevada fire agencies, allowing local personnel from North Las Vegas and neighboring municipalities to deliver critical search-and-rescue assistance to communities facing natural disasters across the Southwest.
