The North Las Vegas Police Department concluded a statewide traffic enforcement campaign this week that resulted in 332 traffic contacts, 334 citations and two arrests focused on pedestrian safety and reckless driving.
The targeted effort, conducted Sept. 5–22 as part of the Joining Forces #12 initiative, deployed Traffic Division officers for approximately 160 overtime hours to curb hazardous driving behaviors and distracted driving across North Las Vegas roadways.
In addition to citations and arrests, officers issued 107 warnings and conducted one Standardized Field Sobriety Test during the 18-day campaign. Citations addressed a wide range of traffic infractions, including speeding, seat belt noncompliance, pedestrian and driver right-of-way violations, reckless driving, intersection infractions and other hazardous moving violations.
Along with enforcement, officers educated 77 motorists during traffic stops regarding dangerous driving habits and the importance of road safety.
The initiative was conducted in partnership with neighboring law enforcement agencies through the Southern Nevada Traffic Task Force to address dangerous driving trends throughout the Las Vegas Valley.
Joining Forces is a multi-jurisdictional statewide program that funds high-visibility enforcement and public education targeting impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding, seat belt usage and pedestrian safety.
Police reminded drivers to remain alert, adhere to posted speed limits and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and intersections. Authorities also urged pedestrians to use designated crossings, obey traffic signals and remain aware of surrounding traffic.
