The North Las Vegas Police Department is joining law enforcement agencies across Nevada for a year-long traffic enforcement campaign focused on curbing hazardous driving behaviors and reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities.
The initiative, part of the statewide Joining Forces program, will run from Oct. 10, 2026 through Sept. 22, 2027. Throughout the multi-month enforcement period, traffic officers will conduct high-visibility enforcement operations targeting violations involving seat belt noncompliance, child passenger safety, impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding and pedestrian right-of-way laws.
Department officials noted that traffic safety remains a primary concern for the municipality. In 2025, North Las Vegas recorded 21 traffic-related fatalities, while Traffic Unit officers investigated 59 major collisions involving killed or seriously injured drivers or pedestrians.
Data compiled by police indicates that speeding was a factor in 51 percent of those major crashes, while 32 percent involved driver impairment from alcohol or drugs, either alone or in combination with other factors.
As part of the initiative, police urge drivers to obey posted speed limits, eliminate mobile distractions, secure children in proper safety seats and adhere to Nevada’s move-over law when passing stopped emergency vehicles. Authorities also emphasized that pedestrians should use designated crosswalks, obey traffic signals, remain alert and confirm visibility before entering roadways.
The Joining Forces program is funded by federal grants awarded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration through the Nevada Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety. Participating law enforcement agencies conduct coordinated, high-visibility enforcement events throughout the year to foster responsible driving habits and protect Nevada roadways.
