Ahead of the opening of early voting, the Nevada Election Observation Network trained more than 200 volunteer election observers to monitor polling locations across Nevada through Election Day.
The nonpartisan civic initiative organized the statewide observation effort to bolster public confidence and transparency in election administration. Observers will monitor balloting in Carson City and across 16 counties, including Churchill, Clark, Douglas, Elko, Esmeralda, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Lincoln, Lyon, Mineral, Nye, Pershing, Storey, Washoe and White Pine. Organizers emphasized outreach to urban, rural and Tribal communities to ensure broad participation.
Volunteers completed specialized instructional training covering Nevada statutory election laws, procedural safeguards, voting administration standards and formal observer duties before deploying to voting sites. Observers will use standardized question sheets and objective checklists to record their observations systematically.
“NEON is committed to collecting and reporting timely and accurate independent information about election administration, without promoting the interests of any candidate, political party or group,” said Kimberly Esse, NEON project director. “NEON seeks to ensure that all Nevadan voters can trust the elections and their outcomes.”
In addition to evaluating general voting procedures, the network launched a pilot accessibility audit during the 2026 election cycle. The audit is designed to gather structured data on local measures implemented to provide equal voting access for individuals with disabilities.
Organizers noted that observers will focus strictly on procedural operations and the conduct of the election rather than political outcomes. Following the conclusion of voting, information gathered across polling locations will be aggregated and analyzed to publish an official, evidence-based public assessment regarding the state’s election administration process.
