Nevada legal organizations offer free legal clinics statewide for Celebrate Pro Bono month

October 23, 2026 by North Las Vegas News Leave a Comment

Legal aid organizations and volunteer attorneys across Nevada launched a statewide series of free legal advice clinics and law fairs during October, offering guidance to residents navigating civil legal challenges as part of the American Bar Association’s Celebrate Pro Bono 2026 initiative.

Coordinated by the Nevada Supreme Court Access to Justice Commission, the month-long effort features in-person workshops, telephone hotlines and virtual video consultations designed to assist individuals and families of limited means. The schedule includes events in urban centers such as Las Vegas, Reno and Carson City, as well as rural communities including Pahrump and Goldfield, with expanded offerings concentrated during the designated pro bono celebration week of Oct. 26–31.

Participating attorneys are providing legal counsel across a broad spectrum of civil matters, including family law, child custody and support, divorce, estate planning, wills, powers of attorney, adult and minor guardianships, landlord-tenant disputes, subsidized housing, small claims, debt collection, bankruptcy, immigration and veterans’ issues.

Brad Lewis, director of the Access to Justice Commission, highlighted the critical role free legal services play for self-represented litigants across the state.

“Thousands of Nevadans try to navigate the court system every year without a lawyer,” Lewis said. “During Celebrate Pro Bono 2026 we work to help those with limited means get free help from a Nevada lawyer. For some this completely changes the outcome of their issue.”

The statewide initiative brings together major legal aid providers, including the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, Nevada Legal Services, Northern Nevada Legal Aid, the Southern Nevada Senior Law Program, Volunteer Attorneys for Rural Nevadans and the Washoe County Law Library’s Lawyer in the Library program. Funding for many of the sessions is supported through the Interest on Lawyer Trust Accounts program, in which participating Nevada financial institutions generate revenue dedicated to civil legal aid for low-income residents.

Throughout October, organizations scheduled specialized clinics to address pressing community needs. In southern Nevada, the Southern Nevada Senior Law Program hosted health care power of attorney workshops and estate planning clinics, including sessions conducted in Spanish and outreach events at the Pahrump Senior Center, Heirloom senior living communities, the Paseo Verde Library in Henderson and the UNR Extension Paradise Campus. Nevada Legal Services also conducted in-person events, including a Disability Awareness Day clinic at Lorenzi Park in Las Vegas, a multi-topic law fair at its Carson City office and a rural resource fair at the Goldfield School gymnasium in Esmeralda County.

To expand accessibility for rural and homebound Nevadans, legal providers established extensive virtual and phone-based consultation options. Nevada Legal Services scheduled Zoom clinics covering criminal record sealing, SNAP public assistance benefits, bankruptcy, guardianships, subsidized housing, probate and name changes. In northern Nevada, the Washoe County Law Library conducted weekly virtual Lawyer in the Library sessions addressing family law, probate, landlord-tenant disputes and general civil law. The Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada also partnered with television station KTNV for a dedicated family law call-in phone bank, alongside weekly online Ask-A-Lawyer programs.

The final week of the celebration features additional clinics, including debt collection consultations on Oct. 27, litigation and trial preparation instruction on Oct. 28 and family law sessions on Oct. 29.

All sessions are free and open to the public, though organizers note that advance registration and intake paperwork are required for many virtual and in-person programs. Complete event schedules, registration links, self-help resources and information regarding public library legal kiosks are available through the State Bar of Nevada website at nvbar.org/probono.
