The North Las Vegas Fire Department officially opened its new training center during a dedication ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 13, unveiling a comprehensive public safety campus designed to prepare incoming firefighters and emergency medical personnel.
Located at 1590 W. Brooks Ave., the municipal facility features 5,200 square feet of indoor classroom space alongside approximately six acres of outdoor training grounds. The outdoor complex includes a burn box and dedicated pad to support controlled, live-fire instructional drills.
The center also stands as the only fire training facility in Southern Nevada equipped with an ambulance simulator, constructed to replicate the interior and operational layout of an active department rescue unit. Department officials announced that the training capabilities will expand early next year with the addition of a four-story burn tower, which will allow recruits and veteran personnel to conduct high-angle rescues and multi-level structural fire evolutions.
North Las Vegas Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown, Mayor Pro Tem Scott Black, City Manager Micaela Moore and Fire Chief Joseph Calhoun attended the afternoon dedication, gathering at the grounds to inaugurate the site and observe live departmental demonstrations.
The facility immediately transitioned into active service following the dedication, welcoming its inaugural training academy class of 13 recruits, who began formal instruction across the classrooms, EMS lab and outdoor simulation props on Monday, Oct. 19.
